The brief

After a break-in, a distribution facility needed proper coverage: cameras with real retention, controlled access to high-value storage, and remote viewing for the operations manager — without exposing any of it to the internet the wrong way.

What I did

  • Surveyed the site and produced a camera plan covering every dock, gate and aisle with the minimum number of cameras.
  • Installed 32 PoE IP cameras and an NVR with 30-day retention, on a dedicated VLAN with no route to the corporate LAN.
  • Deployed card-based access control on 6 doors with per-zone permissions and automatic audit logs.
  • Set up secure remote viewing through VPN only — no port forwarding, no default passwords, no exceptions.
  • Integrated door-forced and camera-offline alerts into the team's existing chat tool.

Outcome

  • Full site coverage with zero blind spots on the insurance audit
  • Access to the high-value cage is now logged per person, per event
  • Two attempted after-hours entries detected and handled since go-live
